Traditional Korean fortune game · Yutjeom

Throw the yut sticks three times to see your year

Yutjeom is a Korean New Year custom: people threw the four yut sticks three times and read the year ahead from the results, Do, Gae, Geol or Yut. Together the three throws make one of 64 signs.

Think of one thing you hope for this year, then throw.

How to read the yut sticks

Do · 1One flat side faces up
Gae · 2Two flat sides face up
Geol · 3Three flat sides face up
Yut · Mo · 4All four sticks land on the same side. In Yutjeom, Yut and Mo both count as 4

The three numbers you throw are joined in order to make one of 64 signs, from 111 to 444. The original phrases follow the traditional Yutjeom signs in the Encyclopedia of Korean Culture.

Yutjeom is shared as entertainment and an introduction to Korean seasonal customs; it does not decide your future.
